Beef Sate Recipe (Sate Sapi). In this post i will share with you all Indonesian Beef Sate Recipe, Have you ever had a taste of indonesian beef sate? there are variety of sate from indonesia, the famous one is Sate Padang (West Sumatera Sate) and Sate Madura.

As you know sate is a dish of seasoned, skewered and grilled meat, served with a sauce. Satay may consist of diced or sliced chicken, goat, mutton, beef; the more authentic version uses skewers from the midrib of the coconut palm frond, although bamboo skewers are often used. These are grilled or barbecued over a wood or charcoal fire, then served with various spicy seasonings. 

In Indonesia, every province and ethnic have a different ways to prepare their recipe, including sate recipe. There are three types of sate : 1. Beef Sate (Sate Sapi), 2. Lamb Sate (Sate Kambing), 3. Chicken Sate Sate Ayam).

The following recipes is Beef Sate Recipe:

Ingredients;

  • 2 head garlic, peeled
  • 10shallots, chopped
  • 2 (1 inch) piece galangal, thinly sliced
  • 16 red chile peppers, seeded and chopped
  • 2 cup roasted macadamia nuts
  • 2 teaspoon belacan shrimp paste
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 pounds boneless beef sirloin steak, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons palm sugar
  • 2 beef bouillon cube
  • 2 tablespoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons kecap manis
  • 6 kaffir lime leaves, finely chopped
  • 64 wooden skewers, soaked in water for 15 minutes

After preparing the ingredient we can begin how to prepare Indonesian Sate by following the directions bellow:

  1. In a mortar with a pestle, mash together the garlic, shallots, galangal, chile peppers, and macadamia nuts into a fine paste. Add the shrimp paste and oil, continue mashing until incorporated. Place the paste into a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook and stir until fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  2. Stir the beef into the sauce and cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour in the water, palm sugar, bouillon cube, and salt. Simmer until the water has evaporated, about 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Stir in the kecap manis and lime leaves, then spread the beef out on a baking sheet or large dish, and allow to cool until cool enough to handle.
  3. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat, and lightly oil the grate. Remove the beef cubes from the tray, and thread onto skewers, reserve any leftover sauce for basting.
  4. Cook on preheated grill for a few minutes until slightly browned; baste occasionally with the leftover sauce.
